Sacha Coenen seized the initiative from Cole Davies midway through Moto 2 at the Southwick National, clinching the overall weekend victory. Davies jammered the starting gate with Levi Kitchen perched tight on his back wheel, but Coenen remained within striking distance of the two title contenders. He burst past Kitchen to take the lead on the opening lap, but the early exchange cost him roughly three seconds to the race leader. Having won Moto 1 by more than 30 seconds, Coenen could bide his time and let the race unfold, trusting his pace.
Although he had the patience to let the race develop, Coenen’s ability was never in question. He collided with Davies on the fourth lap, nearly going down himself and dropping about three seconds in the process. After that scare, he found his rhythm and gradually closed in on Davies around the halfway point of the moto. Coenen staged a late push, applying consistent pressure as the race wore on and running Davies down as the clock ticked into the final stretch.
With three minutes remaining, Coenen endured a hard crash, which briefly threatened to derail his charge. He regained control, rebuilding a 14-second cushion over Davies and preserving a commanding lead as he remounted. The incident did not derail his effort, and he continued to press forward, ultimately maintaining his advantage to secure victory.
Davies had established a sizable gap over Kitchen, who was himself navigating a steady but challenging pace. Davies ultimately finished second in Moto 2, but his second-place result in Moto 1 and a solid overall performance placed him third in the weekend standings. Kayden Minear capitalized on Kitchen’s grip on the inside lines to slip into third place in Moto 2, shifting the point tally in his favor and denying Kitchen valuable championship momentum. Kitchen did manage to hold onto fourth overall, bolstered by his runner-up finish in Moto 1, which helped him secure second place on the weekend podium.
Ryder DiFrancesco experienced a crash on Lap 2, which affected his overall results for the event. Despite the setback, the Southwick National produced a dramatic and competitive two-moto format, with Coenen delivering a dominant performance in Moto 2 that ultimately earned him the top step on the podium and the weekend championship. The event showcased high-stakes battles between Coenen, Davies, and Kitchen, highlighting Coenen’s charge from mid-race to the front and his ability to endure a tense moment and rebound for the win.
