Noskova holds off extraordinary Muchova fightback to win Wimbledon

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Czech teenager Linda Noskova staged a remarkable comeback to beat her friend Karolina Muchova and win a Wimbledon final that will be remembered for its drama. Noskova looked to be cruising, leading 6-2, 5-2, before Muchova, the 10th seed, reeled off five straight games to force a deciding set. The change in momentum left 15,000 spectators on Centre Court in disbelief, as Noskova’s earlier cushion vanished with the finish line in sight.
Yet the 21-year-old demonstrated extraordinary resilience, resetting her focus and sealing a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory in a hard-fought decider. Her second-set collapse was tough to watch, but her ability to regain composure and shift gears in the final frame was truly commendable. Serving for the title again about an hour after her minor setback, Noskova struck an ace to reach a sixth championship point and finished it with a service winner. She collapsed to the court in a flood of emotion as Muchova, now her doubles partner from the Paris 2024 Olympics, walked around the net to offer congratulations.
Noskova concealed her face under her towel as the tension from the late second set lingered, doing the same after she secured the win. The ninth seed becomes the third Czech champion in four years at the All England Club, following triumphs by compatriots Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Krejcikova in 2023 and 2024. In a fitting touch, Noskova’s moment of glory was witnessed by Czech-born Martina Navratilova, a nine-time singles champion, and by one of her idols, Petra Kvitova, who claimed titles in 2011 and 2014.
Beyond the trophy, Noskova earned the Venus Rosewater Dish and a substantial prize money haul of £2 million. The victory also propelled her up to a career-high world ranking of seventh. The event’s exquisite blend of drama and triumph adds another chapter to a Wimbledon final that will be talked about for years.
