Oregon baseball commit Andruw Giles selected in 2026 MLB Draft

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Now we wait. The Oregon Ducks may be losing a key piece of their upcoming baseball recruiting class after outfielder Andruw Giles was chosen in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates took Giles with the No. 108 overall pick, wooing him with the potential of his bat. A Nevada native, Giles brings some pop but is predominantly a contact hitter from the left side who can spray the ball to all fields. He also possesses solid speed and could profile in center field, though a corner outfield role likely represents a longer-term plan for him. His polished bat could make him the best, or among the best, players in Oregon’s recruiting haul.
Last season, Giles posted an eye-catching .494 batting average, collecting 38 hits in just 77 at-bats and reaching base at a .606 clip. The left-handed outfielder has a smooth, compact swing that emphasizes hitting for both average and power, and he carries a strong arm suitable for a corner outfield position. Giles earned recognition as the Prep Baseball Nevada Co-Player of the Year, even though his plate appearances were limited.
With the Pirates investing a relatively high draft position in him, it may prove challenging for Oregon to pry him away with the slot money attached to the No. 108 pick, which currently stands at $725,900. The Ducks have faced criticism this offseason for having fewer resources than SEC programs, but if Giles is enticed by a pathway to development and the potential NIL upside, he could still end up in Eugene. There is now an opening in the outfield after Angel Laya departed, and the Ducks could also experiment with Jax Gimenez at multiple positions, potentially creating opportunities for Giles to crack the lineup as a freshman.
Time will tell whether Giles will don Ducks green and gold. The deadline for his decision is July 27 at 2 p.m. PT.
