​Forward Keira Barry has explained her decision to leave Manchester United and join NWSL side Bay FC. Five months ago, it was confirmed that Barry had permanently departed her boyhood club for greener pastures in the United States. Barry spoke to GOAL and opened up about her departure from United and her life in Bay FC. She said, “It’s always a hard thing to leave a club you’ve grown up at. It was never just about football for me at United. I’d spent my whole childhood there, and it’s a massive thing for my family as well, being United fans.” She added that it was never going to be easy and would always be a difficult move, no matter where she went. “But it was the right time for me to go. I felt like I needed that challenge and that new experience.”
On life in San Jose, she commented, “Obviously, it’s a massive change, a big move away from my family, but everything was just positive. To be fair to my parents, they were both saying, ‘You need to go. It’s too big an opportunity to say no to.’” She described it as a once-in-a-life opportunity that she couldn’t decline. “There was no point in me saying no because it’s exactly what I wanted from life and football.”
Barry also spoke of the relief and excitement she felt after overcoming injuries that had previously held her back, now allowing her to push on and realise her potential.
