Recently, Los Angeles Rams legend Aaron Donald was photographed at the team’s Woodland Hills facility, hitting the practice field as chatter about a potential comeback swirled around him. Even with the video that circulated, Donald isn’t yet any closer to a return to NFL play. TMZ was the first to report that Donald appears to be rekindling his football conditioning, underscoring that the workout is part of his ongoing routine since retirement.
The circulating footage has intensified speculation about Donald’s plans, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler provided a clear update on Saturday. Fowler emphasized that Donald has not reached a decision about whether he will play again and that his training at the Rams’ facility is not a new development but something he has been doing intermittently for several years after stepping away from professional football. “Aaron Donald, I’m told, has not made a decision about his future as to whether to play this year, and that he does work out of the Rams facility off and on, really over the last few years since he’s been retired,” Fowler explained. “So there’s no hard news here. As last I checked, the Rams hadn’t made any sort of firm contract offer to Donald. Now that could be semantics because they have such a good relationship that would be relatively easy and clear-cut to work out.”
He added, “Now the Rams are leaning into this possibility, when you talk to people there, they’re not denying it. They’re sort of open—well, they’re certainly open to the idea. Donald seems open to the idea. People in the NFC, you know, executives, coaches are asking around, like, ‘Is this really going to happen?’ It could be a situation where he comes in like a sniper, mid to late season, skips training camp, comes and gets some sacks with Myles Garrett, and then everybody’s having fun in L.A.”
Donald’s public messages have been mixed since the era of the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, began, leaving fans to read between the lines about a possible comeback. If Donald does return, it would mark a historic moment in the NFL: it would be the first time two multi-time Defensive Player of the Year winners would be on the same team.
This report originally appeared on Rams Wire, highlighting ESPN insider insights into Aaron Donald’s status after his workout at the Rams facility as analysts and fans consider what a potential return could mean for the Rams and the broader league. The evolving narrative continues to blend routine workouts with speculative possibilities, leaving the door ajar for a dramatic late-season entrance or, alternatively, for Donald to continue his retirement path.
