BALTIMORE (AP) — Kyle Bradish turned in a solid six and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run and two hits as the Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 on Saturday night. Bradish (6-9) didn’t permit a hit until Jac Caglianone singled to start the seventh, breaking up Bradish’s no-hit bid. Bradish also fanned five and walked two, helping Baltimore seal the series victory.
Baltimore backed him with a pair of early runs and plenty of offense throughout the game. Coby Mayo, Taylor Ward, and Gunnar Henderson all connected on home runs, contributing to the Orioles’ three-game winning streak, their eighth such streak of the season.
The scoring began in the second inning when Samuel Basallo delivered an RBI double to put the Orioles on top 1-0. In the fourth, Pete Alonso exploded the game open with a towering 420-foot homer that extended the lead to 3-0, and he finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Mayo added another run for Baltimore in the fifth, blasting his 12th homer of the season into the left-field seats. Ward followed with his first Camden Yards homer of the year in the sixth, and Henderson capped the scoring with his long ball—the first pitch of his at-bat in the eighth—his first since June 19.
On the mound for Kansas City, Noah Cameron (5-7) allowed five runs on five hits while striking out nine. Salvador Perez provided the Royals’ lone run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The Royals will send right-hander Seth Lugo (3-6, 4.56 ERA) to the mound against Baltimore’s right-hander Shane Baz (4-9, 4.21 ERA) in the series finale on Sunday.
