Noussair Mazraoui: Amorim has his eyes on versatile United genius

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been keeping a close eye on several of his former stars, with his sights set on reuniting with a few familiar faces. It initially emerged that the new AC Milan boss had targeted a reunion with defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Having already worked with the Uruguayan at both United and Sporting CP, such a move made sense, especially since INEOS could be willing to back the deal for the right price. However, an injury sustained during the World Cup scuppered those plans, and for now the Uruguay international remains with Manchester United.
Next, Amorim turned his attention to Amad, one of the players who thrived under him during his time at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick quickly pushed back against that idea, and Amad himself showed little interest in returning to Italy at this stage of his career. Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Amorim has a fondness for Noussair Mazraoui, and the Moroccan could emerge as a realistic option for Milan this summer. Moretto reports that Mazraoui is one of Amorim’s favorites and that, while there are no negotiations underway and no direct contact between the clubs at present, the 28-year-old full-back is highly regarded by the United boss. Ample time remains in the window for Milan to explore a potential pursuit, with Moretto noting that Amorim’s approval of Mazraoui signals a genuine level of interest.
Mazraoui’s versatility adds further appeal. With Manchester United still competing in four competitions next season, there should be ample minutes for the former Ajax man on either flank, though he is naturally a right back. His ability to slot into Luke Shaw’s role as a left-back understudy could prove particularly valuable, considering Shaw’s importance to United and the need for cover across multiple competitions. If Mazraoui can stay fit throughout the campaign, he could become a key asset for Amorim’s strategic plans.
The only way Mazraoui would depart would be if INEOS decided to bolster the squad at the back, a possibility that continues to be floated with links persisting to Julian Ryerson of Borussia Dortmund. As the window progresses, Milan will watch for developments, weighing the potential benefits of adding Mazraoui to a squad that seeks depth and flexibility across the backline.
