Bucks County teen sets US records at Jump Rope National Championship

A rising star in the jump rope world is making significant strides in his sport. Last month, 17-year-old Zach Peckman returned to defend his title at the 2026 American Jump Rope National Championship, held June 17–20 at Buffalo State University in Buffalo, New York. Competing for Doylestown’s Zero Gravity Jump Rope Team, Peckman retained his status as grand national champion and shattered three U.S. records in the competition. He set new marks in the three-minute single rope speed endurance event, the 30-second single rope speed sprint, and the mixed double-under relay alongside Erika Ebersole of Maryland.
Peckman’s standout performance saw him clock a record 525 in the 3-Minute Speed event at the national championship in Buffalo. In discussing his approach, the young athlete spoke about the importance of rhythm and breath control. Synchronizing each jump with the cadence of a song helps him maintain his pace, conserve energy, and push through the intense three-minute duration. For the 2026 season, he trained to the song Footloose, selecting it for its high-energy tempo and steady beat. He even sped the track up slightly on his computer so he could practice jumping at a pace close to what he would need to achieve in a record-setting performance.
Peckman’s success at the National Championship added to a growing list of accomplishments in a relatively young career. The 17-year-old has been competing in jump rope since elementary school, when he joined the Bungee Jumpers in Doylestown. He later transitioned to the Zero Gravity team during his seventh-grade year. His early enthusiasm for the sport laid the foundation for a series of high-level performances, including a notable international stage last year.
In the summer prior to the national event, Peckman traveled to Kawasaki, Japan, to represent the United States at the World Jump Rope Championships. The biannual competition features the sport’s elite speed events, and Peckman’s participation underscored his status as one of America’s top jump rope contenders. He expressed hope of returning to the World Championships in 2027, this time in Oslofjord, Norway, and he has aspirations of someday representing the United States at the Olympics if jump rope earns Olympic recognition in the future.
Beyond his competitive achievements, the story of Peckman reflects the broader energy and commitment visible in Bucks County’s jump rope community. His journey—from elementary school competitions to national titles and international representation—highlights the dedication and discipline required to excel in a sport that blends speed, coordination, rhythm, and endurance.
As Peckman continues to train and push the boundaries of what is possible in jump rope, supporters and local fans look forward to watching his ongoing progression on the national and international stages. His record-breaking performances at Buffalo State University signal not only personal growth but also the growing prominence of youth athletes in American jump rope, a sport that increasingly captures attention for its athletic rigor and competitive depth.
