After Day 1 of the MLB Draft wrapped up, RHP Coleton Brady chose to join Jay Johnson in Baton Rouge. Brady had been ranked as high as No. 71 by The Athletic, though most other outlets placed him in a slightly higher range. ESPN pegged him as high as No. 134, while MLB.com, Perfect Game, and Prep Baseball Report clocked him between No. 173 and No. 183. That spectrum places him in the territory between the Competitive Balance Round B (which occurs after Round 2) and Round 6.
Hailing from TNXL Academy in Florida, Brady is still exceptionally young, not turning 18 until the fall. He stands at 6’5” and weighs 215 pounds, presenting an extraordinarily projectable frame for a pitcher. Brady brings a three-pitch mix to the table: a fastball that sits in the low 90s, a slider, and a changeup, giving him a well-rounded arsenal at a young age. His size, velocity, and three-pitch repertoire give him a high ceiling as he continues to mature physically and refine his command.
This move marks four members of Jay Johnson’s 2026 recruiting class who have officially announced their intent to enroll at LSU. Brady joins Braxton Beaty, Nathaneal Davis, and Lucas Nawrocki in the commitment group. More prospects are expected to follow suit as the class continues to take shape. The LSU program is steadily building a robust recruiting pipeline, adding athletic, high-upside arms like Brady who can contribute in the near term and develop into standout contributors in the years to come. Expect LSU fans to monitor Brady’s development closely, as his combination of height, projectable frame, and a diverse pitching mix could translate into significant college impact and potential professional upside down the line.
