Cameron Jordan says Michael Thomas, Drew Brees urged him to stay with Saints

Cameron Jordan‘s connection to New Orleans has always gone beyond the football field, and that became more obvious as he opened up about how he worked through his free agency this offseason. The longtime Saints defensive end said on Tuesday he heard from several former teammates while weighing what should come next.

The message from the past Saints’ players was overwhelmingly clear. Jordan mentioned Sheldon Rankins, David Onyemata, Akiem Hicks, Michael Thomas, and Drew Brees as people he spoke with during the process. For a player who has spent his entire career with the Saints and become one of the most important players in franchise history, those conversations pushed him, even if just the slightest, even closer to returning to New Orleans.

“I talk to Sheldon Rankins, David Onyemata still,” Jordan said. “Akiem Hicks chimes in every now and again. I even talk to Mike Thomas, I mean, I’ve got a resounding (message) — nobody was like, ‘Hey, go check out a different (team)’ — I talked to Drew. Drew was like, ‘Hey, man, black and gold bleed forever.’ And I was like, ‘Can anybody have a different opinion?”
