​Born in Bari on September 4, 1973, Bigica has devoted his life to football, beginning as a player who honed his skills in the youth ranks of his hometown club. He rose through the Bari system and, at the age of 20, captained the team to promotion to Serie A. The following season, he added another major achievement to his resume by captaining the Italian national team to the UEFA European Under-21 Championship title, proudly wearing the captain’s armband as he led his teammates on the international stage.
Bigica’s leadership and talent soon carried him to Florence, where he enjoyed success with Fiorentina, lifting both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. His playing career subsequently took him to several Italian clubs, including Napoli, Salernitana, Nocerina, Potenza, and Novara, where he ultimately retired in 2007. With his playing days behind him, a new chapter commenced: a career in coaching.
Transitioning from the pitch to the touchline, Bigica began his coaching journey in youth and amateur football. He earned his first formal coaching role with Empoli’s Allievi Nazionali, marking a crucial early step in his development as a youth coach. This foundation propelled him forward, eventually guiding him to the Fiorentina youth system in the summer of 2017, where he contributed his expertise to the club’s academy and helped shape the next generation of players.
Bigica’s most recent professional chapter unfolded at Sassuolo, where he assumed leadership of the Neroverdi’s youth sides in August 2020. Over six seasons with Sassuolo’s Primavera squad, he achieved notable success, including winning the Primavera Scudetto and the 2024 Primavera Super Cup, underscoring his ability to develop top-tier young talent and achieve sustained results at the youth level.
