The Reading-Berks Association of Realtors (R-BAR) has announced the seventh annual 5K Run for Shelter, scheduled for October 3 at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in Spring Township. This community-driven event brings together runners, walkers, families, and local businesses to support two essential housing organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks Inc. Both nonprofits are dedicated to expanding access to safe, affordable housing and strengthening neighborhoods throughout Berks County.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a morning outdoors with friends, the 5K Run for Shelter provides an opportunity to make every step count. Participants will experience a flat, scenic course along the Union Canal Trail, with professional timing by Pretzel City Sports, and the event is open to all experience levels. From competitive runners to first-time walkers, everyone is welcome to take part in this meaningful community activity.
In addition to the race itself, participants have the chance to make a lasting impact while enjoying a fun and memorable morning with neighbors and friends:
– Support local housing initiatives: Every registration directly benefits programs that help families achieve stable housing.
– Connect as a community: Teams, families, and individuals come together for a shared cause and a sense of collective achievement.
– Enjoy race-day perks: Music, refreshments, awards, and a welcoming atmosphere help create a festive spirit around the event.
Event schedule:
– Registration opens: 8:00 a.m.
– Race begins: 9:00 a.m.
– Awards ceremony: 10:00 a.m.
Early bird perks: Sign up by September 4 to lock in the $25 early bird rate and guarantee your race T-shirt. After September 4, the registration fee increases to $30 (shirts while supplies last).
