Jake Paul mocks Conor McGregor after injury ends his comeback at UFC 329

Jake Paul has long positioned himself as one of Conor McGregor’s most vocal critics, so he clearly relished the chance to mock the former UFC champion after the disappointing conclusion to his comeback. McGregor returned at UFC 329 after a five-year hiatus and a serious leg injury, but his return lasted only 66 seconds. He launched a jumping roundhouse kick that went wrong, leaving his knee in obvious trouble. Although McGregor attempted to press on, the damage was evident, and referee Mike Beltran had no option but to halt the fight, declaring Max Holloway the winner.
In the immediate aftermath, Paul offered his own once-over-lightly “replay” of the moment, using social media to illustrate how the injury occurred. The clip culminated with Paul grabbing his knee and tumbling into a pool, a mock celebration of McGregor’s brutal misfortune and the crushing end to his long-awaited comeback to the UFC.
It wasn’t the first time Paul had aimed his barbs at McGregor. For years, Paul had been challenging McGregor to a boxing match, taunting a larger-than-life figure while facing opponents far removed from the level of competition McGregor represents. Even after those efforts cooled, Paul rarely missed a chance to fire a shot whenever the opportunity presented itself.
McGregor’s catastrophic injury—one that could cast doubt on whether the Irish star will ever return to competition—played perfectly into Paul’s narrative of triumph and superiority. While the full extent of McGregor’s injury had not been publicly disclosed at the time, Paul clearly savored a victory lap of sorts, celebrating what he portrayed as the definitive setback of McGregor’s comeback at UFC 329. The moment added fuel to Paul’s ongoing campaign of rivalry with McGregor, turning a painful setback for the MMA icon into a talking point that kept Paul in the public eye.
