Which Lions player would you like to grab dinner with?

Our relationship with professional athletes often feels distant. But what if that barrier didn’t exist? The Detroit Lions boast a locker room full of charismatic personalities, and chances are you’ve wondered (or even dreamed) about hanging out with them off the field. So for today’s Question of the Day, let’s dive into that idea.
My initial impulse is to pick a bold, cheeky option, like Dan Campbell. Yet since the prompt (which I wrote) specifies a player, I’ll keep it grounded in the players themselves. There are a few distinct directions I could take with this choice.
If I wanted an unforgettable dinner filled with engaging stories, I’d lean toward rookie Skyler Gill-Howard or Ahmed Hassanein. We’ve all heard snippets of their origin stories, but hearing their perspectives firsthand would be incredible. I’m sure they’d bring even more remarkable tales to the table, and their unique viewpoints would offer fresh insight into their journeys.
On the other hand, I could simply choose someone who would be fantastic company in any setting. From my observations in the locker room, a number of Lions players—Colby Sorsdal, Sione Vaki, Derrick Barnes, Jack Fox, Khalil Dorsey, and many others—are some of the nicest, most approachable teammates you could hope to meet. A dinner with this group would be comfortable, enjoyable, and easygoing, with plenty of warm conversations and shared laughs.
If entertainment were the top priority, I’d pick a player who brings energy and vibe to any gathering. In that vein, Kerby Joseph, Teddy Bridgewater, or Jameson Williams would be excellent choices. They all have a knack for keeping a room lively, telling great stories, and turning a simple meal into a memorable experience.
Personally, I lean toward a low-key night: a casual beer and a burger with a few players from the “nice” group who project good vibes and easygoing personalities. It would be a relaxed evening where genuine conversations unfold, and you can truly soak in the personality behind the athlete.
