Real Madrid surpass Bayern and PSG with historic World Cup feat

Although Real Madrid endured two trophyless seasons that cast doubt on some of their marquee players, the 2026 World Cup has effectively silenced those concerns. The three standout attackers for the Merengues—Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham—excelled for their national teams in the world’s premier international tournament this year.
Recent reports confirm that Real Madrid players lead the way in goals scored at the World Cup. As the quarter-finals concluded, Los Blancos players had accumulated 19 goals, a figure that has enabled the club to set a new World Cup record. MARCA highlighted that this marks a historic milestone, breaking the previous joint record of 18 goals held by Honved, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain. Those clubs each reached 18 goals in different editions (Honvéd in 1954, Bayern Munich in 2014, PSG in 2022). With 19 goals in 2026, Real Madrid have established an unprecedented mark.
This record came on the eve of the semi-finals after Jude Bellingham’s brace propelled England to a come-from-behind victory over Norway, securing a spot in the last four where they will meet defending champions Argentina. Bellingham’s double brought his World Cup tally to 6 goals, further cementing his status as a key contributor for his nation and for Real Madrid’s attacking ambitions. Mbappe remains the tournament’s joint top scorer with Lionel Messi, each on eight goals. Vinicius Junior has tally of four goals, and Arda Guler has one, though both players have already been eliminated from the competition.
In total, the World Cup has reaffirmed Real Madrid’s potency on the global stage, particularly in attack, and may bode well for the club’s prospects as they transition into the 2026-27 season. With these performances behind them, the Madrid project can look forward to leveraging this international form as they regroup for domestic and European duties under the upcoming campaign. Real Madrid fans will hope that manager Jose Mourinho can sustain this momentum, translating international success into continued excellence for the club when players return from international duty.
