Baseball fans faced disappointing news on Saturday as Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski was scratched from Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to right arm fatigue, spoiling what had been shaping up as a highly anticipated pitching matchup with Pirates ace Paul Skenes. Misiorowski will also miss Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game, a development that stings for a young pitcher in his first full major league season.
“[It stinks] to miss a start and the All-Star Game, but I know it’s the right thing to do in this situation,” Misiorowski told MLB.com’s John Perrotto. “My arm is a little tired.” While not surprising given his rookie status and workload, Misiorowski remains the game’s hardest-throwing starter, boasting a league-leading average four-seam fastball velocity of 100.5 mph. His velocity underscores the raw potential that has Brewers fans excited, even as they watch for signs of wear in the early stages of his career.

On the bright side, the 24-year-old flamethrower said he will not need to go on the injured list and expects to return to Milwaukee’s rotation after the All-Star Break. “There’s no imaging or anything like that going on. We’re just giving him a rest and he needs some time away from throwing,” manager Pat Murphy explained to Hunter Baumgardt of iHeartRadio Wisconsin.
Misiorowski’s last appearance came on July 7 against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he allowed three runs on three hits while striking out 11 over seven innings. In recent outings, however, he has surrendered more hard contact than usual, giving up five home runs over his last three starts. That trend has understandably prompted Milwaukee to exercise caution with its young ace in the interest of protecting his arm for a prolonged run down the stretch.
With the Brewers leading the National League Central by six games, staying healthy and effective from Misiorowski will be crucial as the season progresses. In the interim, left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser will start against Skenes in Sunday afternoon’s series finale at PNC Park, a matchup that remains compelling even with Misiorowski sidelined.
