The partner of South Africa World Cup player Jayden Adams has spoken about her heartbreak following his sudden passing. Aqueelah Chloe Adendorf took to Instagram to share her grief, writing that there are no words to express the depth of her sorrow. She posted a heartfelt tribute: “Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not only the love of my life but also my greatest supporter and my best friend.” Adams died at the age of 25, and authorities have opened an investigation after his body was discovered at a residence in a Cape Town suburb on Saturday morning.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Jayden Adams had been on the field for the South African national team, contributing to their World Cup campaign in North America. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder participated in all three of South Africa’s group-stage matches, though he remained an unused substitute in the round-of-32 defeat to Canada. The World Cup journey was also marked by personal tragedy, as Adams’s grandmother passed away during the group phase.
Tributes poured in from across the football community as moments of silence were observed in his honor during the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday. FIFA president Gianni Infantino issued a statement expressing grief over Adams’s sudden death, describing it as “incredibly sad.” Infantino offered condolences to Adams’s family, friends, and teammates, acknowledging the impact of his passing on the Bafana Bafana squad and the Mamelodi Sundowns club. He added that Adams will be sorely missed and extended wishes for him to rest in peace.
The national team tribute underscored Adams’s role in South Africa’s historic World Cup campaign and highlighted the broader sorrow felt within the sport as fans and colleagues come to terms with his loss. As investigations continue, admirers of Adams remember him for his contributions on the field and the personal warmth he shared with loved ones off it. The football community remains united in honoring his memory and supporting those affected by this tragedy.
