Juventus are reportedly viewing Fikayo Tomori as a potential successor to Federico Gatti, after La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Get Italian Football News, indicated that the Milan centre-back is open to a move to the Bianconeri. Tomori’s position at Milan has become less certain following the club’s acquisition of Mario Gila from Lazio, a change that has reshuffled the defensive pecking order at San Siro. Coventry City had previously been tracking the England international, but a return to the Championship with a newly promoted side that would offer no European football did not appeal to him.
A crucial element in Juventus’s thinking is sporting director Ricky Massara, who masterminded Tomori’s original transfer from Chelsea to Milan and who now operates from the Continassa. That established relationship provides Juve with a tangible advantage in any approach. Tomori had rebuffed a move in January 2025 and turned down Tottenham around the same period, but the current reports suggest his stance may have shifted again.
Meanwhile, Gatti is expected to depart in search of regular playing time, with Napoli identified as a potential destination. The Partenopei must unload a player before they can formalise that deal, a factor that is currently stalling the entire sequence of events. Yet Tomori represents a ready-made safety net for Luciano Spalletti’s successor Thiago Motta should he take the Napoli reins, as Juve continue to reshape their defensive line. Juventus have already been active in central defense recruitment this window, exploring several avenues to strengthen the backline.
Tomori’s contract with Milan runs through 2027, meaning the Rossoneri hold substantial leverage, and any exit would require a negotiated fee rather than a cut-price sale. With defensive turnover already a theme for Juventus this summer, and with Lloyd Kelly also a potential departure, Tomori could expect a prominent role rather than a mere squad option. At 28, and with more than four years of Serie A experience, he fits the profile Juventus appear to be targeting: a proven defender who is comfortable competing at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions.
