As is the case every offseason and summer, a number of former Minnesota Vikings players from the 2025 roster are finding it difficult to land new contracts. This cycle is no different, with six players still on the free-agent market. While prospects may be dimming for several of these men, there’s still a chance business picks up toward the end of the month when training camp opens.
Fabian Moreau (CB)
Moreau quietly performed well as the third cornerback in 2025. In 11 games, he yielded a 54.2 passer rating and rarely became the weak link opposing quarterbacks hoped to exploit. Because Moreau isn’t a household name, his solid performance largely went under the radar. Minnesota should give him serious consideration for another contract if the price is reasonable. He would be a prudent addition as a fourth or fifth cornerback, bringing enough experience to step in when injuries inevitably occur.
Brevan Bane of PurplePTSD recently floated the idea of a Moreau reunion: the Vikings could use another veteran in the room to serve as the fourth corner behind Pierre. Moreau has already had two stints with Minnesota. The first came in 2024, when he logged 86 coverage snaps, allowing 7 receptions and 2 touchdowns on 10 targets for 67 yards, per PFF. The argument for Moreau is simple: Minnesota can keep a roster spot open for a young corner with a chance to earn meaningful minutes, while still having a veteran who knows the system. If nothing else, re-signing Moreau would provide a known quantity who understands the defense and his role. Based on last year’s performance, Moreau remains NFL-caliber and is not washed up.
Matt Nelson (OT)
Nelson has spent most of his NFL career skating along the fringe of the league, moving between practice squads and emergency depth roles without ever becoming a familiar name. That context helps explain his quiet free-agency period. His next opportunity will likely surface closer to training camp, if at all. When a tackle injury strikes or a team determines its current depth isn’t sufficient, Nelson could once again receive a call to provide depth and experience. He remains a viable, low-risk depth option for teams needing further assurance at the tackle position.
Jeff Okudah (CB)
Okudah’s time in Minnesota was largely disappointing. Repeated concussions and inconsistent on-field performance left him frequently derided by critics, as opposing quarterbacks routinely targeted him. The former top-three pick’s draft pedigree has become a more prominent talking point than his recent play. While he may land a training camp invitation, the label of “2020 draft bust” is likely to persist for the foreseeable future. If he does catch on elsewhere, it may be more for the sake of potential upside than for proven production.
Overall, the group of veterans still on the market includes players whose experiences and skill sets could still be of value to an NFL roster. While the immediate outlook for some may appear bleak, there remains a pathway back to a roster as teams reassess their depth, especially around training camp and the early portion of the preseason.
