Everything you need to know about the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League. Men’s team: We’ll contest Europe’s premier club competition for the 16th consecutive season, the longest active streak among English clubs. Enzo Maresca will aim to guide us to a second triumph in that period, following Pep Guardiola’s landmark win in 2023. The league phase is scheduled for Friday, 27 August 2026, at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. We’ll share details on our potential opponents as soon as they’re confirmed, right here on mancity.com and via our official app.
Women’s team: Each club in the competition’s league phase will play eight matches—four at home and four away. A total of 36 teams are divided into four pots of nine, based on previous European and domestic results. City will face two teams from each pot, alternating home and away fixtures. After the eight group-stage matches, the top eight clubs advance directly to the Round of 16, while teams ranked ninth to 24th enter a playoff round. From there, the competition proceeds with two-legged knockout rounds all the way to the final at Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium in Spain. Schedule highlights include Matchdays 1 (8–10 September 2026) through 8 (27 January 2027), with knockout play-offs (16/17 & 23/24 February 2027), Round of 16 (9/10 & 16/17 March 2027), quarter-finals (6/7 & 13/14 April 2027), semi-finals (27/28 April & 4/5 May 2027), and the final on 5 June 2027. Details of the knockout-phase draws will be confirmed in due course.
Thirty-nine teams are set to participate in the league phase: 29 clubs have already qualified through domestic performance, while the remaining seven will come through the qualifying rounds before the group-stage draw. England is represented by Aston Villa, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Spain features Barcelona, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Atlético Madrid, and Real Betis. Italy is represented by Inter, Napoli, Roma, and Como. Germany includes Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart. France has Paris Saint-Germain, Lens, and Lille.
