Alexander Zverev of Germany celebrated in the stands as he reached the Wimbledon 2026 final after overcoming Great Britain’s Arthur Fery in straight sets, 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-4, in two hours and 14 minutes. The win secured Zverev’s first Wimbledon final and put him within one victory of a second consecutive Grand Slam title. He will face Italy’s Jannik Sinner on July 12, with the winner capturing the Gentlemen’s Singles Trophy. Zverev acknowledged the crowd after the match, beaming with pride at his achievement and the support from his team, saying, “It is amazing. This Grand Slam has always been the one I have really struggled with and now I am in the final at Wimbledon. I am incredibly happy. Incredibly proud of the team and everyone involved and we have one match to go on Sunday.”
Should Zverev defeat Sinner, he would join an elite group as the seventh man in the Open Era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. He would also become the first player in the Open Era to win a second career Grand Slam title immediately after his first. Zverev enters the final with momentum, though the task remains demanding against the world No. 1. Sinner has dominated the head-to-head since 2024, holding a 9-0 edge over Zverev, yet the German star has been playing with confidence and appears primed for a deep run at the All England Club.
Zverev’s personal life has drawn attention in recent weeks as well. His longtime girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, has been vocal in his support and the couple celebrated their five-year anniversary in April. The pair have been photographed together at various events, including the Terra Wortmann Open, where they shared a box with Zverev’s daughter, Mayla, and his grandmother, Natalia Fateeva. Mayla, aged five, has previously been part of Zverev’s extended support circle at tournaments, along with Fateeva, who has remained a constant presence in his life. Zverev has previously dated Brenda Patea, with whom he shares Mayla; the couple began their relationship in 2019 and separated in 2020.
At the Terra Wortmann Open in his home country, Zverev spoke about the growing presence of his family around his tennis life. He noted that Mayla has been with him for many events recently and that her presence is meaningful but not unusual for him. He added that the support from his partner and family provides a significant boost, especially when performing in front of a home crowd.
With Wimbledon looming on the horizon, fans and supporters hope to see Mayla and Thomalla in the stands at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the Sunday final, as Zverev aims to make history and etch his name among the sport’s all-time greats.
