​The Oregon Ducks could be addressing multiple gaps in their pitching rotation this offseason. Miles Gosztola, a right-handed pitcher, was selected with the final pick of the eighth round in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gosztola played a significant role for Oregon as they closed out the 2025 season, contributing as a key piece down the stretch. The Gonzaga transfer began the season as a midweek starter but shifted into the Sunday starter role as the year progressed. He capped the season with a 3.61 ERA over 62 1/3 innings pitched, and he also demonstrated notable swing-and-miss potential, finishing with 69 strikeouts.
Gosztola’s premier offering is a sinker-slider combination that offers substantial movement. The Ducks eased him into action during his first year in Eugene, and his development became one of the program’s major success stories under pitching coach Matt Florer. Oregon had hoped Gosztola would return to campus to bolster the rotation after Cal Scolari was drafted by the Chicago White Sox and Collin Clarke transferred away. Will Sanford, the staff ace, is the only projected returning starter from last season, which means Gosztola faces a significant decision now.
If Gosztola departs for the Dodgers, where the pick value is roughly $218,500, Oregon will need to lean heavily on its bullpen and explore additional contributors to fill the void. The Ducks also added two arms via the transfer portal, bringing in USC’s Michael Ebner and Grand Canyon’s Chase Frey to bolster the staff. The deadline for players to declare whether they will return to school is July 27.
Gosztola joins Cal Scolari as the first Oregon pitchers selected in this draft class. In addition to Gosztola, Ryan Cooney was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round, and Maddox Molony was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round.
