Fiorentina squad for pre-season sees big names frozen out

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

As anticipated, Fiorentina have excluded Robin Gosens and Jacopo Fazzini from their pre-season training, where a substantial portion of the squad remains sidelined by new coach Fabio Grosso. The Viola endured a disappointing previous campaign, spending the majority of the season hovering in the relegation zone before finishing strongly enough to secure their Serie A status. With Grosso at the helm, the club is signaling a full-scale rebuild, and their activity in the transfer market has already been vigorous.

Yet the summer reckoning is far from complete, and on Monday the club revealed the list of 29 players called up to pre-season training at the Viola Park complex in Florence. The news had already circulated that Gosens would not be part of Grosso’s plans, and he indeed has been left out of the group. Fazzini is also not included, as he edges closer to a transfer to Cagliari, while promising teenage striker Riccardo Braschi is heading to Padova on loan.
The squad additions and exclusions extend beyond those on loan or incoming from other clubs. Several players returning from loans appear unlikely to stay with Fiorentina, reinforcing the sense of a clearout. Those left out include Riccardo Sottil, M’Bala Nzola, Amir Richardson, Antonin Barak, and Paolo Bianco. Fabiano Parisi will continue his rehabilitation separately after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his knee, and Marin Pongracic is granted extra vacation time following his World Cup participation with Croatia.
Alex Jimenez has not yet completed his transfer but will join the group once the deal with Bournemouth is finalized. Radu Dragusin is now part of Fiorentina, while the roster for pre-season training lists a number of other players, including Christensen, De Gea, Fei, Lezzerini; Balbo, Beldenti, Comuzzo, Dodo, Dragusin, Viery, Fortini, Moreno, Ranieri, Melani, Perrotti; Atta, Brescianini, Croci, Deli, Fabbian, Fagioli, Mandragora, Ndour, Sohm, Pirrò; Egharevba, Gudmundsson, Kean, and Piccoli. The composition of the group points to a broader strategy of reshaping the squad as Grosso implements his methods and seeks to restore Fiorentina to the upper echelons of Italian football.
