Miami Marlins select Auburn’s Eric Guevara in the 2026 MLB draft

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Another important name from Auburn baseball’s infield has now joined the 2026 MLB Draft ranks. A day after Auburn’s second baseman Chris Rembert heard his name called by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tigers’ third baseman Eric Guevara secured his own moment in the spotlight. The Miami Marlins selected Guevara in the seventh round, taking him at No. 205 overall in a slot valued at $299,700.
Guevara served as a steady presence on the left side of Auburn’s infield for three seasons, contributing across defense and offense. In the field, he recorded 79 putouts and added 185 assists while committing only 11 errors as both a third baseman and a shortstop. Offensively, Guevara posted a robust .310 batting average over his Auburn career, collecting 130 hits, 20 home runs, and 95 RBIs. His best power numbers and run production came in 2026, when he reached career highs with 13 home runs, 78 hits, and 55 RBIs.
Guevara’s selection marks him as the fourth Auburn Tiger to be drafted by an MLB organization. In addition to Guevara and Rembert, Auburn features another major league draftee in starting pitcher Alex Petrovic, who went to the New York Mets in the sixth round. Rounding out the group, closer Ryan Hetzler joined Guevara as a seventh-round pick, signing with the Los Angeles Angels.
