LSU’s Connor Benge selected by Marlins in 13th round

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

After two years at LSU, Connor Benge earned the 385th overall pick in the 13th round by the Miami Marlins. He transferred from Dallas Baptist University (DBU) ahead of the 2025 season and quickly made an impact early on, though his production tapered as the year progressed. In 2026, his opportunities were more limited, totaling only 7.0 innings—half of the 16.0 frames he pitched the previous year. He evolved into a valuable matchup arm and, at times, thrived in that role.
Over two seasons in Baton Rouge, Benge logged 23.0 innings with a 7.43 earned run average. He struck out 28 hitters while issuing 16 walks, and he posted a 3-1 win-loss record. Benge is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher whose upside could be unlocked with continued development of his off-speed repertoire, making him a potential longer-term asset for the Marlins organization.
LSU’s 2026 roster has already yielded a notable impact in this year’s draft, with six players selected, reflecting the program’s depth and talent development. Benge’s selection adds to LSU’s growing pipeline of professional prospects, underscoring the Tigers’ ability to develop pitchers who can compete at the highest levels of baseball. As he advances through the Marlins’ system, teams will be watching how his fastball command and off-speed offerings progress, along with his ability to throw strikes in high-leverage situations. The trajectory suggests that, with continued refinement, Benge could translate his raw arm strength into consistent big-league potential.
