Patriots, Kylian Mbappe Make Jets Look Really Bad originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. Perhaps the New York Jets should have pursued drafting Kylian Mbappe in another year. Right now, the AFC East basement-dwellers are being made to look quite vulnerable by a combined storyline involving the New England Patriots and France’s World Cup superstar Mbappe. The interesting twist is that Mbappe and France have played twice at the Patriots’ stadium during this World Cup cycle. In the group stage, France defeated Norway; then in the quarterfinal, they knocked off Morocco. France has advanced to the semifinal, where they’ll meet Spain on Tuesday. There are no more World Cup games in Boston, and Mbappe and his teammates went 2-0 there during this tournament. That’s more wins than the Jets have at Gillette Stadium since 2011, as the Jets are 1-14 in their last 15 road games in New England, with only one game there each season. When that stat went viral on social media, it spread quickly and generated a lot of discussion. The Patriots have been strong in almost every season since 2011, and yet one can’t help but wonder if the Jets could have racked up a few more victories in that stretch. Instead, the Jets continue to grapple with their issues, while Mbappe is proving himself to be one of the greatest players in World Cup history. It’s hardly surprising that his talent has translated so well in Boston.
