Former White Sox Pitcher Named AL All-Star Game Starter

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

The Chicago White Sox will have a robust presence during MLB All-Star Week. First baseman Munetaka Murakami will participate in the Home Run Derby on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. Then, on Tuesday evening, the White Sox will be represented by three players on the American League All-Star roster: Murakami, third baseman Miguel Vargas, and center fielder Tristan Peters. With a team that currently sits in a playoff position and a freshly bolstered pipeline from the recent MLB Draft, there are plenty of reasons for White Sox fans to be excited.
Beyond the players from the White Sox, a former White Sox starting pitcher will also take the mound for the American League in the All-Star Game. Dylan Cease is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2026 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He is 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA, leading the American League with 148 strikeouts and posting an MLB-best 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Cease also leads the AL with a 2.18 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) and allowing just 6.1 hits per nine innings, while his 0.5 home runs allowed per nine innings stands as the best mark in baseball.
After years of strong performances, Cease is finally earning the national recognition he deserves. In 2022, he posted a 14-8 record with a 2.20 ERA for the White Sox and finished as the runner-up in the AL Cy Young Award race, even though he did not receive an All-Star nod that season. Four years later, following a trade to the San Diego Padres and a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Blue Jays this past winter, Cease has been named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He has been among the top pitchers in the sport since the calendar flipped to June, and his two most recent outings have been particularly impressive. Cease has delivered 15 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and recording 20 strikeouts over his last two starts. In his most recent appearance against the San Francisco Giants, he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning.
With Blue Jays manager John Schneider at the helm of the American League All-Stars as the defending pennant winner, naming Cease to start the All-Star Game was an easy decision. This moment is well deserved. Cease has long been one of the most talented pitchers in baseball, and now he is finally getting the spotlight his performance has earned. Many White Sox fans still hold fond memories of Cease’s time in Chicago and remain proud of what he accomplished there. His selection to start the All-Star Game gives supporters one more compelling reason to tune in on Tuesday night, as Cease takes the mound and the game unfolds. This is a captivating chapter for Cease’s career and a nostalgic reminder of his strong years with the White Sox.
