The Colorado Rockies closed out the second and final day of the 2026 MLB Draft by making five more selections, bringing their total to a strong batch of pitchers and reinforcing the emphasis on pitching that defined their draft strategy. Now that the draft is finished, decisions about the futures of these newly drafted players with the Rockies will be finalized over the next week or two, and perhaps a little longer in some cases.
The Rockies’ media relations team provided a breakdown of the players chosen between the 16th and 20th rounds on Sunday. In the 16th round, Colorado selected Tulane pitcher Sam Larson. The 21-year-old went 2-3 with four saves and a 3.95 ERA in 41.0 innings across 28 appearances (three starts) for Tulane in 2026, recording 18 earned runs, 54 strikeouts, and 23 walks. Larson ranked fourth in the American Conference in appearances and seventh in saves, and he earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators’ Academic All-District Team. Hailing from Lake Forest, Illinois, Larson began his college career at Denison University in Ohio before transferring to Tulane ahead of the 2026 season.
In the 17th round, the Rockies drafted pitcher Josh Swink from Liberty University. Swink, also 21, posted a 3-3 record with three saves and a 4.15 ERA (56.1 innings, 26 earned runs) in 21 appearances (five starts) during his junior year in 2026. The Newton, North Carolina native has pitched in the Cape Cod League with Chatham in each of the past two summers and earned Cape Cod League All-Star honors in 2025 after posting a 2.63 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 10 appearances.
With the 18th-round pick, Colorado selected outfielder Blake Bowen from Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California. Bowen, 18, slashed an impressive .360/.491/.738 while earning Prep Baseball Report California All-State First Team honors. Before the draft, he was rated by The Athletic as the No. 50 overall prospect, MLB.com as the No. 63 prospect, and Baseball America as the No. 70 prospect in the class.
In the 19th round, the Rockies chose outfielder Court McDonald from Stanford. The 22-year-old MacDonald posted a .340/.414/.496 line with 13 doubles, three home runs, and 22 RBIs in 44 games as a senior for Stanford in 2026 and was named to the ACC All-Academic Team that year. Over four seasons at Stanford, he finished with a .309/.385/.409 career slash line, including 23 doubles, one triple, and six home runs in 131 games.
Finally, in the 20th round, the Rockies selected outfielder Dimitri Williams Jr. from Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California. Williams had committed to BYU and hit .286 with six doubles, two triples, and five home runs for Bishop O’Dowd in 2026 after batting .390 as a junior in 2025, which earned him West Alameda County Conference First Team All-League recognition.
The Rockies Roundtable program continues with its weekly podcast, Rockies Rap, which covers the latest data, analysis, and insights surrounding the organization.
