TOPEKA (KSNT) — Lagerald Vick, a former Kansas men’s basketball standout, has been charged with attempted murder and using a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. The charges were filed in Shelby County, Tennessee, and Vick was booked into the Memphis jail on July 11, according to court records obtained by KSNT. The information first surfaced in reports by the Kansas City Star, which noted the charges and arrest details.
The incident trace begins on July 5, at approximately 2:05 a.m., when Memphis Police officers were dispatched to Regional One Hospital on a call describing a shooting with a person who had been struck. The victim told investigators that he was involved in a verbal dispute with a man who had a handgun tucked under his arm. The confrontation escalated, and as the victim attempted to flee, he was shot once in the back. He was transported to Regional One Hospital in a private vehicle. The victim was able to provide the first name of the suspect, which helped investigators narrow the field to Lagerald Vick.
On July 7, the victim identified Vick in a lineup as the person who shot him. Court records indicate that Vick’s bond has been set at $1.5 million. He is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on Monday, July 13, with a bond review hearing to follow on Tuesday.
Vick, a native of Memphis, played four seasons at Kansas from 2015 to 2019, appearing in 94 games and starting 41. In his senior year, he averaged 14.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game before taking a leave of absence from the program in February 2019.
