Dziki Warsaw has officially added former Iowa State standout Osun Osunniyi to its roster for the 2026-27 season. The 6-foot-10 center brings a well-rounded skill set and a proven track record as a defensive anchor to the Polish top tier, as he signs with the OBL after spending the past two seasons with MLP Academics Heidelberg in Germany’s top league, the Basketball Bundesliga. In his most recent campaign in Germany, Osunniyi posted averages of 7.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, while also showcasing his defensive versatility in international competition by tallying 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per game in the Basketball Champions League.
Osunniyi’s professional journey before Germany included a productive stint in Belgium with Limburg United, where he played a crucial role in the club’s success, including a Belgian Cup triumph in 2024. His performance earned him Eurobasket.com All-BNXT League Defensive Player of the Year honors, underscoring his reputation as a premier rim protector and versatile defender at the pro level. This professional success follows a storied collegiate career that highlighted his impact on both ends of the floor, as he accumulated 1,372 points, 1,027 rebounds, and 340 blocks across his college years.
The narrative of Osunniyi’s defensive prowess begins at St. Bonaventure, where he carved out a lasting legacy as the program’s all-time leader in blocks with 305. He became the first player in Bonnies history to be named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, earning the honor in back-to-back seasons (2021 and 2022). His leadership on the court helped propel a defensive unit that ranked among the nation’s best in 2021, ultimately earning the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player as he guided St. Bonaventure to a conference title. Notably, even as a freshman, Osunniyi demonstrated his impact by leading all NCAA Division I freshmen in blocks, signaling the immediate imprint he would make at the college level.
Osunniyi continued his dominant play in his final collegiate season at Iowa State, where he led the Cyclones in blocks (35) and dunks (32). He also achieved an impressive efficiency milestone, ranking fifth in program history for field goal percentage by a senior, shooting 57.7% from the floor. This combination of shot-blocking prowess, interior finish, and efficient scoring underscores why Osunniyi is regarded as one of the premier bigs in his class and why he is a valuable addition for Dziki Warsaw as they pursue success in the 2026-27 season.
