The 2026 offseason has been somewhat disappointing for Detroit Pistons fans, particularly given the growing distance between the franchise and Jalen Duren, who remains an unrestricted free agent. Detroit lost Isaiah Stewart, Marcus Sasser, and Tobias Harris earlier in the offseason, and the Pistons have only added a couple of aging role players in Gary Harris and Taurean Prince. It’s clear the Pistons need more if they hope to contend for a title next season. Cade Cunningham is already one of the league’s top players despite his youth and looks like a solid No. 1 option, but beyond the rising Cunningham and Duren, a 22-year-old budding star, Detroit requires more help. So why not pursue a flashy trade that could grab LeBron James’s attention?
According to an earlier report by NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Pistons have Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets on their trade radar. If the Pistons could assemble assets to land Durant, could that be enough to entice James to consider Detroit? In a hypothetical three-team deal, the Rockets would receive Zaccharie Risacher from the Hawks along with Duncan Robinson, Ron Holland II, and a 2027 first-round pick from Detroit. Detroit would acquire Durant, while the Hawks would gain Dorian Finney-Smith, Houston’s 2027 second-round pick, and the Rockets’ 2028 first-round pick. With Durant paired alongside Cunningham and Duren, and Ausar Thompson entering the mix, Detroit could mount a compelling free-agent push to lure James, who reportedly remains undecided about his next destination. Detroit could only offer James a near-minimum contract.
