Kings Prospect Ralph Reacts to Dream Summer League Opportunity

Elias Ralph knew that hearing his name called on draft night was a long shot, especially for a player coming from Canada. For the former Pacific forward, the ultimate goal has always been to secure a spot on the Sacramento Kings’ Summer League roster. That chance finally came about a month after he auditioned for the Kings, marking one of the defining moments of his basketball career. “It was probably one of the craziest feelings I’ve ever had,” Ralph said. “Being from Canada, you don’t really think it’s possible. Glory to God, it just kind of happened, and I’m really grateful.”
Ralph joined Sacramento as an undrafted free agent following a senior season in which he averaged 16.7 points per game and became the first Pacific player in seven years to earn First-Team All-WCC honors. Before receiving the Summer League invitation, he and his agent concentrated on securing as many pre-draft workouts as possible. “It was a dream to play Summer League for me,” Ralph explained. “I knew I wasn’t going to get drafted, so I knew the next step would be Summer League.”
The opportunity also keeps Ralph close to familiar surroundings. After spending the past two seasons in Stockton, he felt that joining the Kings organization was a natural fit. “It’s huge because I know the area so well already,” he said. “Speaking with some of the Kings’ staff, they actually went to school at Pacific too. It’s kind of like a little Pacific family already there.”
Ralph attributes much of his professional preparation to Pacific coach Dave Smart. Rather than wrapping him in praise, Smart pushed him to improve every aspect of his game. “He didn’t sugarcoat anything for me,” Ralph recalled. “He told me I was talented, but I had a lot of room to grow. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and really helped me mature.”
Although Ralph hasn’t yet appeared in a Summer League game after staying out of the California Classic, he has learned to embrace the patient, process-driven nature of the experience. Instead of fixating on minutes, he’s focused on absorbing knowledge from the players around him. “I’m taking in everything, grateful for every moment. When the opportunity does come, I’ll be ready. I can shoot, rebound at a high level, and guard,” he said.
When that chance arrives, Ralph wants scouts and coaches to notice three core attributes above all else. Training with first-round pick Darius Acuff Jr., second-round choice Emanuel Sharp, and rookie forward Alex Karaban has shown him firsthand what separates the professional level from college ball. Beyond the Summer League, Ralph dreams of a path that could lead to a G League stint and, ultimately, a place on an NBA roster. His message to aspiring Canadian players chasing the same dream is straightforward: stay ready, stay hungry, and let the opportunity find you.
