‘He’s going to get paid a lot more money’ – NFL exec’s blunt message on Titans guard in ESPN top-10 series forces an urgent extension

Peter Skoronski landed on Jeremy Fowler’s top-10 interior offensive line poll Sunday, a development that could push the Titans’ front office toward extending their best offensive lineman as soon as possible. For a while now, people have wondered who the best football player on the Tennessee Titans roster is behind Jeffrey Simmons. The answer isn’t hard to pinpoint: it’s Peter Skoronski. The starting left guard and former first-round pick has blossomed over the past two seasons into one of the NFL’s elite guards, and the league is beginning to take note.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler released the interior offensive line installment of his Top 10 series, which features an anonymous panel of dozens of executives, scouts, and coaches around the league voting on the top players at each position. After earning honorable mention in 2024, Skoronski rose to No. 9 entering a season in which he’s poised to command a substantial payday.
Here are the full top-nine rankings from the ESPN piece: Cowboys guard Tyler Smith at No. 1, Colts guard Quenton Nelson at No. 2, Chiefs center Creed Humphrey at No. 3, Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz at No. 4, Bears guard Teven (Joe) Toney at No. 5, Falcons guard Chris Lindstrom at No. 6, Kansas City guard Trey Smith at No. 7, Raiders center Tyler Linderbaum at No. 8, and Titans guard Peter Skoronski at No. 9. Skoronski’s highest ranking indicates that at least one evaluator views him as the best interior offensive lineman in football, while his lowest ranking left him unranked on another voter’s list.
The ESPN article notes that Skoronski has continued to ascend despite playing on a struggling offense for three seasons, showing steady improvement in each year of his career. Most notably, he finished fourth among guards in pass-block win rate in 2025 at 96.0 percent. Evaluators also say he has developed greater explosiveness and power, addressing a common early critique of his game. There’s little doubt that Skoronski is the best offensive lineman on Tennessee’s roster. His ceiling combines high-end ability with consistent performance, and aside from an appendectomy that was outside his control, his track record remains remarkably durable. All of this makes the contract discussion less about if and when, and more about when the Titans will strike.
An anonymous NFC executive put it plainly in the ESPN piece: “He’s absolutely jumped to elite status. He’s going to get paid a lot more money than people think.” That sentiment appears accurate, and the question now centers on where Skoronski will slot among the NFL’s highest-paid interior offensive linemen. Earlier this spring, Tyler Linderbaum signed a deal with Las Vegas worth $27 million per year, the richest contract at the position in league history. Then there’s Trey Smith, who secured a $23.5 million APY deal from Kansas City last summer. Everyone else remains below that threshold.
So where will Skoronski land in the pecking order of top interior linemen? Will he settle somewhere between those two figures, or could he push beyond them with a landmark deal? As Skoronski’s reputation continues to rise, the outlook for Tennessee’s negotiations will likely hinge on his continued performance, durability, and the premium teams place on elite guard play at the NFL’s highest level.
