Captain Parfitt proud after Glamorgan T20 triumph

Glamorgan captain Lauren Parfitt spoke of her immense pride after her side secured their first piece of silverware with a 32-run victory over Gloucestershire in the Vitality Blast Women’s League 2 final, played in sunny Cardiff. Despite a tense finish, Glamorgan managed to bowl Gloucestershire out for 122 to lift the trophy, marking a landmark moment for the club following last year’s heartbreak in the T20 Blast semi-final.
“I’m incredibly proud of a group of girls who work incredibly hard behind the scenes on their skillsets,” Parfitt said. “Winning is what everyone wants to do, so we were glad to get ourselves over the line in what was a really competitive final. Our aim is to win trophies, play good cricket, and we’ve done that today, so I’m really happy with the result.”
The home side had to battle to gain a foothold early on as Parfitt and opening partner Daisy Jeanes fell cheaply in the first innings, placing pressure on the lineup. However, a pivotal third-wicket partnership between Bethan Gammon and Megan Sturge, together with disciplined bowling, laid the groundwork for Glamorgan to push towards a defendable total. Parfitt praised the pivotal partnership, saying, “What a partnership it was to get us to a total that we were happy with. Our bowlers then backed it up; there was a tricky period in the middle, but they held their nerve. We fielded incredibly well today and took all the catches that we needed to get us over the line.”
Glamorgan’s triumph ends their wait for a trophy and paves the way for the club’s next chapter as they prepare for life as a professional outfit. Parfitt, who has shone throughout the season, will soon be preparing to face a tougher level of competition as Glamorgan step into Tier One in the coming years. However, for now, the focus remains on the current campaign and what finishing the season with a trophy can do for the team’s development.
Looking ahead, Glamorgan still have this season’s One Day Cup to contest, a competition Parfitt believes will help the squad acclimate to the increased demands of top-tier cricket as they gear up for 2027. “We’re really excited about where we’ve placed ourselves,” Parfitt noted. “We finish the season with 50-over cricket, so that will put us in a good position heading into next season.”
Head coach Rachel Priest was equally buoyant about the victory. The former New Zealand international had watched Gloucestershire defeat Kent in a semi-final eliminator earlier in the day, all part of a dramatic double-header at Sophia Gardens. “It was a really interesting day,” Priest reflected. “It was tough for the girls to wait around all day, not knowing who we would face in the final. It was a rollercoaster today, and while it was great for the fans, it gave my heart rate a workout too. The team showed real grit and determination to dig in, and Gammon’s final innings was exceptional—an innings that will be remembered for a long time.”
With the trophy secured, Glamorgan can celebrate their maiden success while plotting next season’s ascent in the new professional landscape. The victory is not just a moment of triumph but a stepping stone toward higher ambitions as Parfitt and her teammates look to refine their game against stronger opposition in the years to come.
