Valerie van Avermaet of the Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad reports that Arsenal are among three clubs pursuing Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge, along with AS Roma and Atletico Madrid. Officially, Tresoldi is not for sale this summer, as Brugge believe his spell with the club should continue for at least another season. However, the Gunners are said to be showing concrete interest in bringing him to the Premier League. There are no negotiations underway at present, and Tresoldi remains under contract until 2029. The main concern for Brugge could be the widening financial gap between themselves and the clubs interested in their player, which might push the Belgians to consider offers.
This isn’t Arsenal’s first link to Tresoldi. Earlier this year, Bild’s Christian Falk reported that the Gunners were seriously interested and regarded as favorites to sign the 21-year-old. Before the previous season, Tresoldi played for Hannover 96 in Germany, never having appeared above the second tier of German football. This season marks his first in a country’s top flight, and he has made a strong splash: 23 goals and nine assists across all competitions, including three goals and one assist in his debut Champions League campaign. Two of his goals came against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while another was scored against Monaco.
Tresoldi did not find the net in his Brugge appearance against Arsenal in December, though he did manage a decent shot on target in a challenging match for his team. A move to the Premier League would represent another significant step up. Internationally, Tresoldi plays for the Germany U21 team, where he scored twice against Northern Ireland during the March break. He has six goals in his last seven appearances for his country’s U21 side.
Arsenal are also eyeing Tresoldi’s Brugge teammate Christos Tzolis, a deal that seems considerably more likely to progress this summer.
