This game was canceled due to wet grounds. The Akron vs. Chesapeake matchup got underway with the Baysox quickly tying the score after Akron had plated three early runs against Chesapeake starter Ben Vespi. The Baysox then surged forward, delivering a key four-run seventh inning that turned the tide in their favor. Frederick Bencosme produced an impressive performance, scoring the first run and tallying three hits along with a walk. In the pivotal seventh inning, Thomas Sosa delivered a run-scoring single before Dom Keegan ripped a three-run triple to push the lead further. Sosa and Keegan each collected two hits, while Douglas Hodo, Brandon Butterworth, and Willy Vasquez contributed a hit apiece to the offensive effort.
Ben Vespi had a relatively quiet day on the mound, though he did contribute by executing a successful pickoff at second base. Five Chesapeake pitchers combined for 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball, with Zane Barnhart, Tyson Neighbors, Jeisson Cabrera, Gerald Ogando, and Micah Ashman handling the workload. The box score shows the final tally and the sequence of events that defined the contest.
Meanwhile, Frederick surged ahead with six runs, but Jersey Shore found an even bigger output, ultimately outscoring them. Starter Patrick Reilly yielded four runs across parts of four innings, a strange accumulation that included two solo homers and two wild pitches. The relief corps fared variably: Chandler Marsh and Joe Glassey performed solidly in relief assignments, yet setup man JT Quinn endured a difficult showing, surrendering six runs on seven hits, including three home runs.
The game also featured notable performances at the plate. Big guy Victor Figueroa doubled and singled, driving in two runs. Yasmil Bucce added an RBI single, contributing to the offense. Wehiwa Aloy reached base in two ways, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Alfredo Velásquez added a home run, rounding out the productive day for Fredericksburg’s hitters.
In Kannapolis, all five of the runs attributed to Kannapolis were charged to Dalton Neuschwander, who worked 3.2 innings. After his exit, a five-man relief group—Kalien Hamson, Eccel Correa, Brendan Parks, J.D. Hennen, and Zac Lampton—took over and combined to keep Kannapolis off the board for the remainder of the game. On offense, the Shorebirds amassed nine hits, though they also struck out 11 times. Jaiden Lo Re stood out, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three walks. Adriander Mejía and Joephillip Guzman had two hits apiece, while Elvin Garcia, Miguel Rodriguez, and Junior Aybar each added a hit.
For those tracking the week’s schedule, Monday’s slate included the planned games, but as of now there are no additional games on the calendar for today. This recap offers a comprehensive look at the outcomes and standout performances from the latest set of games, with a focus on the key moments and players who influenced the results.
