Man Utd make surprise £35m move for Aston Villa star

Man United are expected to complete a move for Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa after reportedly activating the midfielder’s release clause. The Red Devils have turned their attention to the Belgium international following their decision to back out of a prospective deal to sign Ederson Silva from Atalanta during the recent transfer window. United are also said to have agreed terms to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea as Michael Carrick works to rebuild the club’s engine room in the wake of Casemiro’s departure.
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tielemans will join Manchester United once Villa’s release clause is triggered. The fee is reported to be around £35 million (€41 million). Villa, who refused to see their player leave, were left with little option given the contractual mechanism, according to The Athletic. Although Tielemans had attracted interest from a number of clubs, he reportedly prefers a move to Old Trafford.
Tielemans arrived at Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023 and has since made 93 Premier League appearances for the Midlands club, tallying five goals and 17 assists. He also played a key role in Villa’s Europa League campaign last season, contributing to their success as they progressed in Europe.
The anticipated exit for Tielemans coincides with Villa’s reported acquisition of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg, a deal said to be in the works as they beat Newcastle United to secure the Switzerland international’s signature. This development comes amid broader transfer speculation and strategic reshaping within the English clubs’ squads ahead of the new season.
