Barcelona defensive mainstay intent on staying at club after Bayern Munich approach

Bayern Munich have begun by making initial inquiries about FC Barcelona star Jules Kounde, reaching out to the French defender’s representatives to gauge his current situation and to assess whether he might be open to a future move. While German reports over the weekend hinted at interest from the Bavarians, SPORT, citing sources close to the matter, confirms that the Bundesliga champions have recently sought information on Kounde’s contractual status and his long-term intentions.
Although Kounde remains a key member of Hansi Flick’s squad, he is not viewed as untouchable. After establishing himself as one of the world’s best right-backs last season, the French international has struggled to sustain that level of consistency throughout the present campaign. He continues to deliver solid performances, but Barcelona believe that occasional lapses in concentration have proven costly in several matches.
Bayern Munich have asked about Kounde’s situation. The photo shows him during his time in action. Still, his standout World Cup performances have once again reminded Europe’s elite of his quality. Despite Bayern’s interest, those close to Kounde insist that his focus remains squarely on Barcelona. The 27-year-old has no plans to leave this summer and is determined to regain the consistently exceptional form that once made him one of Europe’s premier defenders. For now, his intention is to continue wearing the Barcelona shirt.
Bayern’s interest in Kounde does not come as a surprise. The Frenchman remains one of the most highly regarded full-backs in European football and only recently reaffirmed his commitment to Barcelona by signing a contract extension through 2030. The renewal followed sustained interest from Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola had been eager to bring him to the Etihad Stadium. Barcelona responded by extending Kounde’s deal and improving his terms, further signaling their confidence in the defender.
Kounde has shone at the World Cup. A few excellent displays have been interspersed with occasional inconsistencies during the previous season, but there has never been any doubt about his ability. His World Cup campaign has once again underscored the peak level he can reach when fully firing on all cylinders. France manager Didier Deschamps has made him an undisputed starter, with Kounde playing nearly all of the national team’s minutes throughout the tournament. Alongside central defenders William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano, he has formed one of the competition’s most reliable defensive units, helping France establish itself as one of the strongest defensive teams in the tournament.
At present, Bayern’s interest remains exploratory, serving mainly to gauge market conditions and Kounde’s accessibility rather than to signal an imminent pursuit. The situation is being monitored, but there is no substantive movement beyond early inquiries. The overall picture suggests that while Bayern are keeping tabs on the defender’s status, any potential transfer would require a clear alignment of the club’s plans, Kounde’s own ambitions, and the broader transfer-market dynamics.
