Miami commit Donte Wright is new CB1 following latest ’27 Rivals Rankings Update

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back and Miami pledge Donte Wright posted a substantial leap in the latest Rivals 300 Rankings. Wright is now ranked as the No. 4 player in the country and the top-rated corner prospect in the Rivals 300. Previously, he sat at No. 14 nationally in the Rivals 300 and No. 10 in the Rivals Industry Ranking, which blends the three major recruiting services into one composite score.
The future Miami Cane has enjoyed a strong off-season, performing at multiple events and leveraging his elite physical traits. “I’m not trying to sound arrogant, but I do think I deserved this,” Wright told Rivals.com over the weekend. “I know how hard I’ve worked, and this has been my goal since day one. I attended all the big events and saw all the other top corners out there. I’m very confident in my ability and truly felt like I was the top corner, so I’m thankful and this means a lot to me for sure.”
We caught up with Wright at the Battle of the Beach 7v7 tournament in Huntington Beach, California, where he again demonstrated why he’s so highly regarded. Structurally, he’s an athletic 6-foot-0.5, 180 pounds with long arms and continued growth ahead. He spent his freshman year at safety before transitioning to corner, and the switch has been seamless. Wright is a naturally aggressive player who thrives in press coverage and can disrupt receivers at the line and at the catch point.
As an athlete, he combines short-area quickness with long-speed propulsion and has verified track times to back up his football speed. His best marks include a 10.66-second 100 meters and a 21.80-second 200 meters, and he plays with that same pace and tempo on the football field. He’s explosive getting in and out of breaks and has a knack for closing on the football. Defensively, he’s a physical run defender who does an excellent job disengaging and making tackles in space.
If there’s an area Wright could improve as a senior, it would be becoming more technically sound and less handsy in coverage; yet he has already made strides in that regard over the past year. His motor, toughness, and competitive drive are evident, and those intangibles shine in every setting.
Wright is one of those players who consistently gives maximum effort and demonstrates a strong work ethic off the field as well. He’s talented enough to step in and contribute early once he arrives on campus and carries a high ceiling for the NFL, underscoring why he’s viewed as one of the top prospects in the country and why his commitment adds a significant dimension to Miami’s Class of 2025 projections.
