Knicks star Jalen Brunson accepts Roman Reigns’ invitation to attend WWE’s ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event’

New York Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson is coming off a triumphant championship run, and on Saturday he will return to Madison Square Garden for a different kind of competition—WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. The Knicks ace was extended an invite by former WWE Champion Roman Reigns on social media, and Brunson promptly accepted, signaling his recognition of the Tribal Chief with a gracious reply.
This appearance won’t mark Brunson’s first brush with the WWE world. Known for his genuine enthusiasm for the sport, Brunson has previously found himself tangentially involved in WWE storylines. In 2024, during a high-profile feud between Logan Paul and LA Knight, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton—another devotee of pro wrestling—aligned with the heel Paul. The moment escalated at a televised Madison Square Garden event on June 28, 2024, when Brunson, who was watching from the crowd, sprang into action.
During the Paul-Knight clash, Paul signaled to Haliburton to use brass knuckles. When Haliburton appeared ready to comply, Brunson vaulted the barricade and confronted him in the ring. Although Knight ultimately triumphed, Haliburton returned with his brass knuckles alongside Paul, and Brunson grabbed a steel chair, rushing into the ring to balance the odds. While no outright confrontation occurred, the moment fueled fan speculation about a potential future on-court clash between Brunson and Haliburton within a WWE arena.
Brunson has long admired Roman Reigns. In a public comment on April 30 of this year, he expressed enthusiasm for Reigns’ victory at WrestleMania over CM Punk, noting that he’s “very excited” and that he and one of his trainers share a handshake to acknowledge Reigns before every Knicks game.
WWE’s frequent crossovers with NBA stars have helped boost interest in the product among basketball fans. Even the Knicks’ broader fan base has paid closer attention to WWE chatter, partly thanks to moments like Danhausen’s playful curse aimed at the team during their series with the Atlanta Hawks. A fan’s playful purchase of a Cameo to “uncurse” the Knicks from Danhausen sparked a humorous ripple, and New York rode that momentum to a 13-game playoff winning streak before finally falling in Game 3 of the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. The championship run that followed was a historic milestone, marking the Knicks’ first title since 1973.
Brunson’s upcoming appearance at Saturday Night’s Main Event invites plenty of room for speculation. The show, known for its heightened fan service and interactive moments compared to typical television tapings, leaves open the possibility that Brunson could simply be part of the audience or even step into the ring for a moment with hometown cheers backing him. The likelihood of a surprise appearance adds an extra layer of excitement for Knicks fans and WWE enthusiasts alike as Saturday’s event approaches.
Fans should mark their calendars: Saturday Night’s Main Event is scheduled to air exclusively on Peacock on Saturday, July 18, at 8 p.m. ET. If Brunson participates in the segment, it would offer a memorable crossover moment for a city deeply proud of its basketball champions while giving WWE viewers a thrilling nod to one of New York’s most celebrated athletes. Whether he’s there solely as a guest or winds up in a surprise spot inside the ring, Brunson’s presence is sure to generate buzz and fuel more talk about the intersection of pro basketball and professional wrestling in the months ahead.
