The most recognizable name among NFL insiders is staying put at ESPN. Adam Schefter and ESPN, the so‑called “Worldwide Leader,” have agreed to a multi‑year contract extension, the network announced on Monday, July 13. Front Office Sports was first to report that the extension would keep Schefter with ESPN well into the 2030s, with news published on July 9. In addition to his influential presence on social media and his rapid news delivery, Schefter will continue to regularly appear across ESPN’s NFL programming lineup, including on Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, NFL Live, The Pat McAfee Show, SportsCenter, Get Up, First Take, and during the network’s coverage of Super Bowl 61 and the NFL Draft.
“Adam reaches NFL fans wherever they are—on air, on ESPN Digital, and across social platforms—and that multi‑platform approach is a core reason he remains such a valuable asset to us,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content, in a statement. “ESPN NFL news has a way of cutting through the clutter on the sports calendar, and Adam is a key reason our audience turns to ESPN first when news breaks. His credibility with sources, relentless work ethic, and ability to deliver news in real time are second to none. Fans know it, the league knows it, and we know it. We’re thrilled he’ll continue leading our NFL coverage for years to come.”
Reports from The New York Post in 2022 suggested Schefter earned roughly $9 million annually. Schefter has been with ESPN since 2009 and has become indispensable in the world of sports journalism, embodying the mindset and hustle required to be a trusted insider.
“It is the highest honor of my career to continue to get to work at ESPN,” Schefter said in a statement. ESPN’s acquisition of NFL Network, completed after regulators’ review in January, has further integrated the networks’ insider teams. Since the deal, NFL Network insiders such as Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo have signed multi‑year agreements with ESPN.
This collaboration has positioned ESPN to offer a consolidated and comprehensive NFL news operation, leveraging Schefter’s insider access and reporting alongside the broader ESPN platform. The extension ensures that Schefter will remain at the forefront of NFL coverage, delivering real-time updates and in‑depth reporting across television, digital, and social media channels, while reinforcing ESPN’s status as a destination for authoritative NFL news.
