Louisiana baseball’s LHP Tyler Papenbrock signs with Washington Nationals

   ​With the 2026 MLB Draft coming to an end this weekend, Louisiana baseball has more to celebrate as one of its own, left-handed pitcher Tyler Papenbrock, signed with the Washington Nationals as an undrafted free agent.Papenbrock marks the second Ragin’ Cajun heading to the big leagues following a historic season. Right-handed pitcher Cody Brasch was selected No. 238 overall by the San Francisco Giants.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementA shutdown bullpen led the Cajuns to their Starkville Regional runner-up finish and it was manned by names like Papenbrock, Brasch and fellow lefty Andrew Herrmann. Papenbrock started his collegiate career at Huntington University before coming to Lafayette as a graduate student. In his lone season as a Cajun, he posted a 4-0 record with three saves in 22 appearances.The 6-foot-4 and 225-pounder served mainly as a relief pitcher for the Cajuns, making two starts and ending with a 5.36 ERA.
