At the school in Denison, Texas, he was a two-way star.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFrom there, it was one season at Texas Tech, where Dathe got just 3.0 innings on the mound.So from there, he transferred down again to Division II Angelo State, where for two seasons he was an all-conference pitcher.In 2025, Dathe went 9-1 with a 2.99 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 72.1 innings. That earned him a look from LSU for his final season of college eligibility.Dathe got into just 12 games for LSU, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing six runs (8.53 ERA) with nine strikeouts.His outings were spaced out, but Dathe could never find much of a rhythm in his short stints out of the bullpen.The Blue Jays clearly saw enough throughout his lengthy college career to at least give Dathe a chance.
