(This story was updated to add new information.)Josh Edwards of CBS Sports listed the top remaining offseason priority for the Jacksonville Jaguars with training camp on the horizon. His pick? The linebacker position.”Ventrell Miller is unproven at linebacker, but will be asked to take on a larger role in the absence of Devin Lloyd,” Edwards wrote.Edwards also mentioned other uncertainties that the Jaguars face, including along the offensive line, at running back, and at defensive tackle.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementEdwards called the Jaguars “a candidate for regression.”There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s start with linebacker. Devin Lloyd’s departure leaves behind a lot of production to replace, particularly after an All-Pro season. But as linebackers coach Tem Lukabu mentioned recently, it will be a group effort that expands beyond just the linebacker position. The Jaguars also have a number of options on the roster to fill that role, with Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs the front-runners to earn that playing time. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile also has a strong track record working with this position. So, as I look at the current state of the Jaguars’ roster, linebacker is not the biggest hole.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementI’m also not all that concerned about the running back position with Jacksonville’s committee approach, and I think competition helps elevate the offensive line play — which does have to improve in the run game. That said, the defensive line depth from a pass rush perspective and the rotational depth at defensive end behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker are the big question marks for me.The Jaguars have to consistently get after the quarterback more often this season after ranking a modest 18th in pressure rate in 2025 and 27th in sacks. The defensive end depth is inexperienced, while it remains to be seen if Arik Armstead and Ruke Orhohoro can deliver over a full season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe name of the game is getting after the quarterback. When that happens regularly, every defender benefits. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: NFL analyst selects Jaguars biggest roster hole heading into training camp
