The LSU Tigers’ goal is to win a national championship in every sport every year, and their investments are starting to show.On3’s Pete Nakos recently ranked the Tigers as the No. 1 transfer portal in college baseball, giving them their second No. 1 class in a major sport this cycle (football). LSU has always been at the forefront of embracing NIL, and now are going full steam ahead in every direction.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis baseball transfer portal class that Jay Johnson has assembled is going to give the Tigers one of the most talent-stacked rosters that the sport has seen. They also just got some luck with a very promising freshman class thanks to the MLB draft.LSU struck out with their transfer portal additions last year, but it would be a shock to see that happen two seasons in a row.Bino Watters comes in for what is likely a one-and-done season after two incredible years with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He slashed .362/.447/.610 last season with 10 home runs. Being able to add just him to the outfield would be great, but the Tigers also added Angel Laya, who slashed .296/.396/.538 with 14 home runs for the Oregon Ducks as a true freshman. The Tigers also helped add to their struggling pitching staff with the top pitcher in the portal, Landon Hood. Hood posted a 2.48 ERA with 78 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work last year for the Gonzaga Bulldogs.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementA lot of the heavy investment that LSU has made this offseason is in making sure that their programs stay afloat. It was a major down year for the baseball team, but it got so bad in football that they had to blow it up and basically start over with Lane Kiffin. Most of the defensive staff stayed the same with a lot of returning talent, but they added the top pass rusher in the portal along with everything that had to done on offense.Kiffin came to the Tigers for the promise of an increased NIL budget and that is exactly what Verge Ausberry has given him.LSU is also having to do the same over in basketball with Will Wade starting over with an entirely new roster. It hasn’t been cheap, but it’ll probably be a couple more years of building their before the Tigers are able to attract top talent like they are in football and baseball.
