Just as schools are almost wrapping up their Class of 2027 recruiting, the Class of 2028 is picking up the pace, and the No. 1 recruit from the Class of 2028 has the Florida State Seminoles among his top 5.Yes, the same Seminoles who currently rank No. 59 in the National Rankings for their Class of 2027.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhile the undisputed No. 1 star is yet to be established, five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright from Mandarin High School is making a solid case. And there is a chance he’s staying home.As of now, three of Wright’s Top 5 are the familiar faces from the Sunshine State: Florida, Miami, and yes, even Florida State. All three are expected to battle it out with the heavyweights, Ohio State and Texas. However, when it comes to an absolute non-negotiable in Wright’s father in his future program, FSU faces a serious uphill battle.“We’re looking for something he wants to be part of. Proof of concept is more important than the recruiting things people do,” Wright’s father told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMike Norvell’s recent offensive tape clearly doesn’t match the family’s high standards.Right now, rival programs like Ohio State, Oregon, or even Tennessee can point to their current weekly box scores and showcase wide-open, receiver-friendly systems that light up the scoreboard.Norvell is trying to rebuild that offensive identity on the fly in Tallahassee, but until the Seminoles put a consistently dominant passing attack on display, they simply cannot offer the concrete, on-field evidence the Wright family is demanding.Besides Florida, all three: Miami, Ohio State, and Texas have recent trips to the College Football Playoff in the last couple of seasons. That’s exactly the type of receipts Wright’s father is demanding before his son makes a decision.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe last “proof of concept” that Norvell can possibly present is from 2023, the last season when his recruiting tactics hit the bullseye.Norvell struck gold in the 2023 recruiting cycle, one that left other programs to bite the dust, and went on to have a massive undefeated season. But Norvell and FSU seem to have run out of luck following that sole season. When the portal wheel spun again, it was a mighty bust for Norvell, and the start of the program’s descent. They haven’t been able to recuperate to this date, as the Seminoles’ Class of 2027 ranks No. 59 nationally, far, far beyond the caliber of talent that he amassed back in 2023.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJoin our ROUNDTABLE community!
