The accolades continue to roll in for former Oregon Ducks star Penei Sewell. He’s already been named a first-team All-Pro three times and gone to four Pro Bowls in his five seasons in the NFL since being drafted by the Detroit Lions with the seventh pick in 2021. Now, he can add another highly-esteemed accolade to his mantel.ESPN polled league executives, coaches and scouts from around the NFL, compiling a list of the top 10 players at 11 positions. On Saturday, the offensive tackles ranking was released.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLo and behold, Sewell was named the top player at the position in the NFL one season after being named the No. 2 offensive tackle. The lowest that NFL personnel ranked him was No. 4, an elite level of consistant talent that is recognized across the league.”Sewell took the top spot with consistency in the voting,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote. “Though he didn’t dominate the first-place voting, he was living in the second- and third-place range, which improved his average in the composite total. And one NFC executive was blunt when describing Sewell’s strengths as a player.”Here’s a couple quotes that NFL coaches said about the former Duck:”He’s still the most complete player at this stage — physical, powerful, smart.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”He has the most ‘f— you’ attitude plays in the league. Always brings the juice.”After being named a first-team All-Pro in 2025 and being up for the Protector of the Year award, the anticipation is that Sewell will slide from right tackle to left tackle with the Lions with the departure of veteran Taylor Decker. Rookie Blake Miller, selected by the Lions in the first round out of Clemson, will operate from the right tackle spot.During a majority of his time at Oregon, Sewell was the most dominant left tackle in the NFL. With that being his new spot in 2026 in the NFL, the result should be no different as Sewell aims to lead the Lions back to the playoffs.Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions. This article originally appeared on Ducks Wire: Penei Sewell named the top offensive tackle in the NFL
