AJ Dybantsa has wasted no time bursting onto the NBA scene, jumping into Summer League play by making a splash through his first two games. The Washington Wizards’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft is averaging 25 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 25.4 minutes per game.Dybantsa’s stellar start doesn’t come as a surprise, as he and several other high-profile picks have looked the part through the early stage of Summer League. While Dybantsa will give the Wizards an instant-impact starter in the 2026-27 season, the former BYU forward made a surprising revelation about his own career goals recently, and how they’ve changed thanks to a conversation with former Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhile it goes without saying that NBA players unquestionably want to have the kind of career that lands them in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Dybantsa explained that his goal was to reach the Hall, but a conversation with Wade led to his “new goal.””I spoke to Dwyane Wade right before the draft, and I told him I want to be a Hall of Famer,” Dybantsa said. “And he said that’s what he wanted to be too, until he got selected for the top 75, and that was like a bigger moment for him than the Hall of Fame. So he said 20 years from now will be the 100th anniversary, and I should be aiming for the top 100 instead of just a Hall of Famer, so that’s my new goal.”It’s a unique yet excellent look behind the scenes at some of the conversations young players entering the league have been known to have with former NBA greats. For Dybantsa, the sky is the limit with his talent, so I don’t think it would surprise many if he carved out the type of career that ultimately makes him one of the players remembered for a long time, but obviously, we have a long way to go before that conversation.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis article originally appeared on For The Win: AJ Dybantsa admits Dwyane Wade completely changed his biggest NBA career goal
