Fresh off a pair of 30-point performances, Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Meleek Thomas has emerged as one of the top players so far in the NBA Summer League. In his latest outing on Monday, Thomas produced 35 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in a 90-73 win over the Miami Heat at the Cox Pavilion. He went 14-for-23 from the field, including five 3-pointers in 30 minutes of work.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThomas’ 35 points are tied with Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson for the most in a game in Las Vegas this year. He recorded 21 points in the first half alone to set the tone and lead the Cavaliers to their first victory in the 11-day competition.”We went 0-2 (in) the first games,” Thomas told Chris Haynes of Prime Video after the game. “I’m big about winning, so I just wanted to solidify the win, and I want to keep solidifying wins. It is not about the points, because I’m a team-oriented player. If I make others look better, I look amazing myself.”After dropping 30 points on Sunday, Thomas is averaging 28.3 points, 4.3 assists, four rebounds and 2.3 steals while shooting 45.8% from 3-point range. He currently leads all players in scoring with 85 points, the most by any player through their first three summer league games.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe former Arkansas guard was projected as a first-round pick before falling to the Cavaliers at No. 34. He was highly touted for his scoring and shooting after converting a program-record 48.7% from beyond the arc in 18 SEC games, traits that have been on display this month.Thomas, who signed a four-year contract with the Cavaliers on July 1, should have the opportunity to compete for rotation minutes next season. While his exact role is yet to be determined, Thomas believes he has plenty to offer the group.”My energy, my defense, my offense, my leadership,” Thomas said of what he can add to the Cavaliers. “I’m going to come in as a rookie, but nobody is going to take me to be a rookie just because of how I play and how I carry myself.”This article originally appeared on Rookie Wire: Rookie Meleek Thomas wants to keep ‘solidifying wins’ for Cavaliers
