It has been two years since the 2024 recruiting class signed, with Notre Dame having 5-star defensive end Bryce Young as part of the group. There has been more than enough time to analyze how the top players in the cycle have done, as CBS Sports Cooper Petagna recently reviewed how each one has done. He put each of the 5-stars into one of three categories: exceeding expectations, meeting expectations and in question. Young has been solid over the last two seasons, with 43 tackles and 3.5 sacks and a few blocked punts, but still landed in Petagna’s in question.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe No. 24 overall recruit of the class entered his Irish career with plenty of hype, being the son of former Notre Dame star Bryant, but hasn’t put it all together just yet. Petagna believes that Young is “a talented player with all the tools to continue to ascent…. (Young) will need to play more consistently to his frame as a pass rusher and run defender if he’s to become the player once projected.”Hard to disagree with his assessment at the current moment, as Young has flashed, but hasn’t put together the monster season that many expected him to do. There is still time, as he enters his third-year in the program and his role should be expanded this fall. Hopefully Young lives up to his high school hype and has a breakout year for Notre Dame.Contact/Follow us @IrishWireND on X (Formerly Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Notre Dame news, notes, and opinions.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFollow Mike on X: @MikeFChenThis article originally appeared on Fighting Irish Wire: Has Notre Dame’s lone 5-star 2024 signee been worth the hype?
